To understand what the Bible teaches on any subject, it must be carefully examined from Genesis to Revelation.  This is made easy by bible software such as E-Sword which this blogger uses extensively. “The SUM of your word is truth.” wrote the psalmist (119:160 emphasis added) “and every one of your righteous rules endures forever.” As we examine this list, it becomes very clear that the author of Scripture prepared the reader from the beginning, long before it happened, that Judah would not only be separated from the remaining tribes of Israel, but remains to this day. vayisgashWe are poised for a dramatic climax this week as Joseph’s identity is unmasked. In last week’s cliffhanger, the brothers went to Egypt to buy grain from the brother they had sold, though his Egyptian appearance rendered him completely unrecognizable. We ended abruptly last week with Joseph in prison, the cupbearer having forgotten all about him, and the sages commenting that God added two more years to his time in jail because he looked to the cupbearer for help instead of continuing to trust in God. But, perhaps, instead, circumstances were not yet ripe for Joseph’s reappearance. In this week’s lesson everything will suddenly and completely change.  Continue reading Miketz – at the end

After devoting a mere chapter to the genealogy of Esau, the Torah returns to the object of its narrative, the called and chosen who are destined to become the Bride of Yeshua and the light of the world.

Jacob lived in the land of his father’s sojournings, in the land of Canaan. (Gen 37:1)

Unlike Esau, who departed Canaan and settled in the land of the Horites, Jacob dwelled in Eretz Israel, albeit as a sojourner, just like bedouin tenthis father and grandfather.   No doubt, after all of Jacob’s trouble and turmoil, he is ready for peace and quiet.   But, it is not to be.   The family must descend to Egypt to fulfill the purposes of God.   Recall that God told Abraham his descendants would be in bondage for four hundred years.
